ChecklessOn iPhone in early 2027

Don’t just paint over it. Train the pause.

Blocking Instagram is like painting over mold: it looks fine for a while, then it shows through again. Checkless is an 8-week mindfulness program for iPhone that works underneath, training the pause between the urge and the scroll. A free blocker covers the walls while you practice.

You treat mold before you paint.

Paint over mold and the wall looks clean. For a few weeks. Then the stain comes back through, because nothing underneath has changed.

A blocker is a coat of paint. It keeps Instagram shut for a while, and that helps. But it can’t change the reach for your phone, so the habit simply waits for the block to end.

Underneath is a skill: noticing the urge as it rises, staying with it for a breath, and choosing what to do next. That skill is mindfulness. It doesn’t come from a lock. It comes from practice.

Treat the wall first. Then the paint holds.

A woman at an open window at dusk, eyes closed, smiling in the last warm light.

Eight weeks to train the pause.

The program follows established mindfulness practice, applied to one habit: reaching for your phone. Eight chapters, each with a short introduction and seven practice days. One guided exercise a day, ten to twenty minutes.

  • Progress, not a calendar. Miss a few days and you pick up where you left off. Nothing resets.
  • No streaks. You see the days you practiced this month, not a chain you’re afraid to break.
  • A morning reminder at the time you choose. When you reach for Instagram, it’s a gentle note, never a forced exercise.

What the eight chapters cover

  1. AutopilotNotice how often your hand reaches for the phone before you’ve decided anything.
  2. Back to the bodyFind where the pull shows up physically, a moment before the tap.
  3. The breathAn anchor you always have with you, in any queue, on any couch.
  4. The urgeWatch it rise, peak and fade, without having to act on it.
  5. Responding, not reactingWiden the gap between the pull and what you do next.
  6. Just a thought“Only a quick look” is a thought, not an instruction.
  7. KindnessSlipping is part of practice. Starting again is the practice.
  8. Your own practiceKeep what works for you, for the weeks after the program.

No promise that you’ll never open Instagram again. Just a skill that gets a little steadier every day you practice.

Between practices, a pause.

Practice takes weeks. The urge shows up today. So Checkless also steps in the moment you open Instagram, TikTok or any app you choose, and reminds you of today’s practice instead of guilt-tripping you.

  1. The pause

You tap Instagram. Checkless opens first and asks for one slow breath. Often that’s enough to notice you were on autopilot.

  2. The choice

Pick your minutes, from 1 to 45, never more than today’s budget. Or tap “I don’t want to open Instagram” and get on with your day.

  3. The stop

When the time is up, Instagram locks, even mid-scroll. There’s no “five more minutes” button, just a note about today’s practice. Want more? Start over with a fresh pause.

  4. The limit

Every app gets a daily budget. Once it’s spent, the app stays closed until tomorrow. A real emergency? Type a long random code and you’re in. Possible, just never mindless.

The blocker is free. All of it.

Paint shouldn’t cost extra. No trial, no paywall halfway through setup. Everything that stops the scroll is free.

  • Any app you chooseInstagram, TikTok, YouTube, games, the news. You pick them in Apple’s Screen Time list.

  • A pause before every openOne slow breath between the tap and the feed.

  • Your own minutesChoose 1 to 45 minutes each time, or decide not to open the app at all.

  • A hard stopWhen time is up, the app locks, even mid-scroll.

  • A daily budget per appSpent is spent. The app opens again tomorrow.

  • An emergency codeFor the moments that really can’t wait.

  • A simple to-do listWhen you close an app, Checkless shows you one thing you wanted to get done. Just one.

You only pay for the 8-week program, the part that works underneath.

What happens on your phone stays on your phone.

No account, no sign-up, no servers of ours. Your practice, to-dos and budgets live only on your iPhone. Apple’s Screen Time doesn’t even tell Checkless which apps you picked, just anonymous tokens.

Questions

Is this therapy?

No. Checkless is a mindfulness practice, not a medical or psychological treatment, and it can’t replace one. If your phone use really worries you, please talk to a professional.

What is the program based on?

On established mindfulness practice: short guided exercises for attention, the breath and the body, applied to one everyday habit, reaching for your phone.

What will the program cost?

We’ll share the price at launch. The blocker stays free either way.

Which apps can Checkless pause?

Any app on your iPhone. You choose them in Apple’s Screen Time list and add a short automation in the Shortcuts app. Checkless walks you through both, step by step.

Can I get around the blocker?

If you really want to, yes. Anyone can switch off an automation, and the emergency code is there for real emergencies. That’s the point: a lock you can open is only paint. The practice is what changes how you respond.

Do I need an account?

No. There’s no sign-up and no login. Everything stays on your iPhone.

Is there an Android or iPad version?

Not for now. Checkless is made for iPhone.

When does it launch?

Checkless is scheduled for early 2027, in the first quarter. Join the waitlist and we’ll email you the day it’s in the App Store.
